My name is Katherine Sprules and I LOVE cake!
I am owner and founder of Katherine Sprules Cake Designs. I started this company in the Fall of 2012 and I am passionate about making beautiful cakes that taste delicious too.
I graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Art Education with an emphasis in Sculpture, and began teaching Art at an inner city school in Phoenix, Arizona. I also exhibited my own art in galleries and always had a passion for creating three-dimensional pieces.
After four years, I decided to pursue my dream of combining my passion for sculpture and cake. I moved across the country and enrolled in the Baking and Pastry Arts program at the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE) in the heart of New York City. It was here that I learned all the techniques to make a beautiful cake and how to combine flavors and source the freshest ingredients to make it taste great, too.
Upon graduating from ICE, I completed an externship with the renowned Colette Peters at Colette’s Cakes in the West Village. I also had the privilege of working as a freelance decorator for Heather Barranco’s Dreamcakes, NY Cake, and Kate Sullivan of Cake Power. Through these opportunities, I was able to refine my techniques and gain the experience needed to start my own business, and Katherine Sprules Cake Designs was born.
Throughout my life I have found that Art can give people a variety of feelings and emotions but almost nothing can make a person happy as quickly as a good slice of cake. As a cake decorator, I feel it is my responsibility to create each cake so that it is both aesthetically beautiful and tastes delicious too, so that you will remember it fondly for years to come.
Like I said before, I love cake.
