Frequently Asked Questions
Can I schedule a tasting?
Of course! We would love nothing more than to sit down with you and discuss your special day and taste some cake! Tastings can be scheduled Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Unfortunately, Thursdays and Fridays are when the magic happens and that’s when we are up to our elbows in baking and decorating. Only available on the weekends? Contact us and we’ll try and make it happen.
I’m slammed at work… can you come to me for the tasting?
Totally. We get it. This is New York City and most people are super busy. We would be happy to come to your home or place of work for the consultation! Tastings can be packaged “to go” if you prefer to taste the cake at your leisure and we are super at email if that’s your preferred method of communication.
When should I order?
Honestly, the sooner the better. We recommend you order your cake between 4-6 weeks in advance. For wedding and groom’s cakes we recommend reserving your date as far as 4-6 months in advance to ensure your date is available.
*Note: a rush fee may apply
In a pinch?
Contact us and we might be able to accommodate a last minute order. We want to make your dreams come true and create the perfect cake for your special day if we can. You never know if you don’t ask, so drop us a note and we will do our best to work with your tight timeline.
We know it seems unfair that cake and math should have to go together! But really, it’s as simple as figuring out how many people will attend your event and multiplying that by the price per slice. Price per slice depends on the cake flavor, filling and detail of the design. Our cakes start at $8 / slice with a $500 minimum charge. A 50% deposit is required to save your date and the final payment is due in full two weeks prior to your event.
How the heck does pricing work?
Can you help me stay within my budget?
Absolutely. We can definitely work with you to come up with an amazing design that will not break the bank.
What about delivery?
We proudly serve the tri-state area and we would be happy to deliver your cake to your special event for an additional fee (fee will vary depending on your location and the size of your cake). Delivery of your cake is recommended for anything larger than one tier, as cakes are fragile and some assembly on site may be necessary. Trust us. You don’t want to have a heart attack driving down the FDR with your wedding cake in the back of your car.
But I can't decide on a flavor! Eek!
Not to worry! That's what tastings are for! We will help you pick the perfect flavor combination to reflect your taste and event.
Can I bring pictures to my tasting?
Please do! We LOVE to see inspiration for your event! Bring us pictures, clippings from magazines, send us links to your Pinterest boards, the works! We truly can't get enough! The more inspiration you bring to the tasting, the better able we'll be able to design the cake of your dreams!
Who took those lovely photos of your cakes?
Rachel Styer of feather weight photography is my hero when it comes to creating beautiful moments on film! She is an amazingly talented artist and a lovely person to boot! Visit her website at www.feather-weight.com

Frequently Asked Questions
How the heck do you pronounce “Sprules”?
I knew when I got married that the last name was going to be a rough one ;) Think rules with the [sp] sound in front of it. Try saying it with me, Sprules rules!
Where do you get the inspiration for your cakes?
Everywhere! I have a BFA in Art Education and Sculpture and truly look for inspiration for my art everywhere!! Seriously.
Do you still make art?
Absolutely. Although my favorite medium to create in is sculpture (whether it be cake, bronze, wood, or clay) I end up mostly painting in my downtime as I live in NYC and since space is at a premium, I don't have room for my wood working equipment and potters wheel. My beloved potters wheel currently lives in Arizona in my parents garage until I have room for it again. At any rate, you can check out my paintings at www.ugallery.com or Amazon.
Wait, you sell your art?!
Totally! Fun fact, one of my paintings was sold to the production company to be used as set design for the movie, It’s Complicated (you know that one movie with Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and Steve Martin). It was very exciting but unfortunately didn’t make the final cut. Bummer, I know!
Are you from NYC?
Nope. I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona in the heart of the Sonoran Desert. I totally grew up with horses, dogs, cats, and felt most comfortable at the barn. I am a true cowgirl at heart and miss the desert every day. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE living in NYC! But man, have you seen an Arizona sunset?
How long have you been here?
My husband Chris and I moved here from Phoenix, Arizona a little over 3 years ago. It has been an amazing ride and this city leaves me awestruck everyday! NYC is an incredible city and we are lucky to live and work in this magical place.
FUN FACT: Both my twin sister and myself married men with the same first and middle names!
What's something interesting about you?
I have an identical twin sister named Elyse. She lives in Virginia and is a talented photographer and a great momma to my amazing nephew Bennett.
